Fly Away

Updated: Apr 15, 2020

Covid 19 has trapped us all inside. We are confined to our spaces, limited in our movements. Or are we? Corvids are just one 'r' away. The spaces left empty by humans have been filled in many places by birds and animals. Can you hear birds now you could not hear before? Can you see new birds? And those corvids? Can you see any crows, ravens, rooks, magpies, jackdaws?

Today's prompt is to suggest letting the corvid family carry you away. Choose one member. Write the name and then let your imagination fly free. Follow that bird. What words come next... what ideas pull you away up into the sky... fly. Set your alarm for 5, 10 or 15 minutes. And just promise yourself you will not raise your black pen, from the white paper until that sound comes. If you run out of ideas go back to your corvid word and repeat that word until you have a new idea to take you away again.

When you finish you can read back over the words and see if there are any you find interesting or unexpected. Underline them. Write them out and see if they are a story, a poem, a prompt for something more.

Enjoy your writing. Be well. Virtual hugs.
